If anyone out there actually follows this blog, then you may remember a post I had about the string of upcoming Godawful american remakes of cool movies.
I shall continue this string of thought flllowing my discovery of this:
Once again, Hollywood has taken a cool concept (a video game where people beat the crap out of each other by throwing fireballs and flying across the screen until the other one is too weak to fight) and turned it into a sanctimonious US propaganda movie, probably about telling Americans that they should all be free and the rest of the world that they should do as America says.
Not that I’m prejudgemental or anything. But even if those undertones do not exist, and there was a perfectly good reason to replace the fact that that Chun Li was chinese in the original game with a depiction of her as an all-American hero girl, possibly because Hollywood believes Americans and the rest of the world in general have some genetic defect which makes them unable to relate to a hero that is not American, then at the same time it just looks crap - I mean, is the main big badass bad guy actually being played by whatshisname from Desperate Housewives? That’s what happens when you sell rights to your ideas to FOX, I suppose.
However, to make up for this, InLine Cinema now seem to be planning to make a new Mortal Kombat movie, entitled ‘Devastation’. I wish I had a YouTube video that I could show you featuring the trailer from that, but YouTube is clogged up to the brim with snivelling first year film students’ postings of fake trailers. First of all, I hate fake trailers. There is no one over the age of 15 who wants to watch a fake trailer and the 15 year olds and younger that do want to watch them simply to do it out of a confused sense of obsession and lack of anything important to do. But these fake trailers have actually been splattered over YouTube and being billed as ‘official’ trailers by the makers.
This begs the question: what wretched little slimestain would do this? Blatantly lying to the world in a sorry attempt to get them to watch this stupid little film they’ve made on Final Cut and set to some nu metal nonsense sung by someone who really should have just gone ahead with killing themselves long ago and given the rest of the world some peace while they were at it.
But I digress. Apart from not being able to find a video for the trailer on YouTube, it sounds like it should be quite cool. Aparently it is going to be a sequel to the first Mortal Kombat movie, and is going to pretend that Annihilation never happened. Sounds a bit like a movie that is going to be made with integrity in mind. But as with anything that comes out of Hollywood these days, my poor jaded self with just have to reserve judgement until I actually see it.
