Bar and event enhancement experts LA Group hosted their LA Expo last week. The event brought in producers of speciality and high end drinks producers all into one space (LA Group’s bartender training academy in Kinning Park) to promote what they have to offer to anyone seriously involved in the drinks trade in Scotland, which made for an excellent night of sampling high quality spirits for free.
Exhibitors included Speciality brands, Emporia brands, Sipsmith’s, Angostura, Chase Distillery, Burnstewart distillers, Wine importers, Supercherry, Hayman’s gin, Konik’s Tail Vodka, Peter Spanton beveridges, Hi Spirits, Ron Zacapa and host of others (apologies to those I have forgotten).
Personally I was blown away by the Sipsmith’s gins and damson vodka, Chase Distillery’s smoked vodka, Speciality’s Tapatio tequila and the El Dorado 12 rum. Other highlights included the Konik’s tail vodka, produced by one man who lives on site and who has taken charge of every aspect of the vodka distillation process to create one of the smoothest, silkiest vodkas I’ve ever tasted, which was a particular priviledge as he only produces 4000 bottles a year.
To cleanse palettes between visits, LA’s bar team were providing alcohol free cocktails, including the extremely tasty ginger mojito.
Alas, I wasn’t able to try everything that was on offer, but to attempt to sample all of the 700 drinks on show would have made my trip home something of a challenge, possibly even requiring a hospital visit on the way, but it was a great event for a designer coming to visit and a must for anyone in the drinks industry.
